Mobile computing devices have been experiencing significant evolution leading to the creation of mobile applications. Specialized hardware and software are now integrated in smart phones and tablets such as Global Positioning System (GPS) and accelerometers to power new and innovative mobile applications. Today, there is a demand in the marketplace for students to take advantage of the programming models and become more knowledgeable in mobile applications development. This course will introduce students to the core conceptual skills and basic practices needed to develop an Android application and focus on how the application communicates to retrieve, store and interact with other devices on any android platform. Topics will include memory management, user interface design, user interface building, input methods, data handling, and network techniques.
