Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS THE SEVEN YEARS OF SECONDARY HIGH SCHOOL?
The seven years of secondary school is a mandate that is designed to allow all students to continue up to Grade 13 exiting the formal education system at age 18 with an Associate degree or another qualification.
- Students entering Grade 12 will be able to pursue one of three pathways during the course of the additional two years - Pathway 1 – Traditional, Pathway 2 - Technical and Pathway 3 - General
- Students will be exposed to multiple qualification options and will be able to pursue advanced studies on tertiary campuses, acquire college credits on the high school campus and or an associate degree within the partnership with tertiary institutions/colleges.
- The Career Advancement Programme (CAP) will be fully included effective September 2020 as the additional two years for seven years of high school.
HOW WILL THE CAP BE INTEGRATED INTO THE SIXTH FORM PROGRAMME?
All secondary schools will facilitate the Grades 12 and 13 pathways based on the availability of space. Students who cannot be accommodated by their secondary school will be accommodated at a partnering tertiary institution (public/private). The relationship between the High School and Tertiary Institution will be governed by a Partnership Agreement.
HOW WILL STUDENTS BE TIMETABLED?
Proper timetabling of the Sixth Form programme is expected to take place within regular school structure utilizing MoEYI approved teaching and learning modalities. While aspects of the programmes may be delivered online, every effort will be made to maximize on face to face engagements.

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information will cover the full cost of students under Pathways 1, II and III in the Sixth Form program. Schools will be required to apply approved parent contributions for students enrolled in the Traditional Sixth Form programme - Pathway I until further advised. If a student opts to pursue a programme offered by a participating institution but not covered under the formal Pathways outlined for the Sixth Form Programme, the Ministry’s contribution will remain. The student/parent will be fully responsible for covering any difference in cost.
