Programme Description

The Diploma in Business Administration is designed to equip students with the knowledge and the skills necessary for a career in general business. Students will be provided with a fundamental knowledge of business functions, processes, and an understanding of business organizations in today’s global economy.

Course work includes business concepts such as accounting, business law, economics, management, and marketing. Skills related to the application of these concepts are developed through the study of computer applications, communication, team building, and decision making. Through these skills, students will have a sound business education base for lifelong learning and career advancement.

Graduates may use this diploma for career advancement or for matriculation into a UCC bachelor degree programme.

Who is this Programme Suitable For?

  • Those wanting to qualify for entry in one of UCC’s bachelor degree programmes.
  • Those starting or running a micro/small business or are currently working in  business administration, accounting, management or marketing.
  • High School graduates or Graduates for the purposes of job entry.
  • Mature students who are currently working and want to upgrade their qualifications

Admissions Criteria

Minimum requirements: 3 CSEC/CXC subjects OR
Mature student entry
: Mature students are anyone over the age of 25 who did not have the minimum entry requirements of 3 CSEC subjects

Duration and Tuition Fee

Summer 2022 10 months  $100,000 JMD Two evenings per week; 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Financial Aid

Payment plans are also available. Please speak with Student Financial Services (SFS) for more information.

Financial assistance is available in the form of grants, scholarships, loans, and part-time employment as a student worker within the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean Group of Companies.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates are prepared for employment opportunities in government agencies, financial institutions, and small to large businesses or industries. Upon successful completion of the Programme graduates can find job opportunities in the following occupational areas:

Project Leader Assistant, Office Administraton, Accounting Assistant, Executive Assistant, Management Trainee, Office Supervisor, Business Ownership, Marketing Assistant, Promotions Assistant, Administrative Assistant, Manager, Administrative Services Assistant.

Internships

All students are highly encouraged to participate in an Internship Programme  before the completion of the Programme. Internships can be taken upon successfully completing the programme.Students may register for Internships only when they have located, secured and have had the internship site approved with the Programme Coordinator.
