The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) Gives Back to the Good Samaritan Inn
Kingston, Jamaica - May 24, 2024 - The Good Samaritan Inn besides National Heroes' Park in Cross Roads was the beneficiary of the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean, UCC Foundation and UCC Alumni Association's Labour Day Project on the morning of 23rd May, 2024. Fourteen students, staff and alumni turned out and painted the dining and meal delivery area, the women's dormitory area and a section of the exterior courtyard. A special effort was made to retain the artwork done by another group several years ago when the women's dormitory was last painted. It was hoped that the designs would continue to enhance the area for women who have to stay overnight at the Good Samaritan Inn due to violent situations.
In addition to painting, the group delivered numerous boxes and bags of food items, linens, clothing, baby and adult hygiene items. The UCC Alumni Association was strategic in sourcing a significant donation from Grace Kennedy Group to bolster the donations made by staff and students.
The volunteers had a fulfilling time as they also met and worked alongside staff and beneficiaries from the Good Samaritan Inn who came out to assist.
The UCC family aims to help those in need particularly in neighbouring communities and the Foundation is being strengthened to play a greater role. The Labour Day 2024 activity built on an existing relationship.with the Good Samaritan Inn, whereby The UCC Cafeteria provides about 40 meals every Tuesday to assist with caring for those in need.
