This course is intended to expose students to current Auditing theories and practice, so that they are able to institute effective controls as it relates to recording and reporting of financial information.
It covers fundamental auditing concepts and introduces students to techniques that are needed for planning and controlling business activities. These skills are critical in honing student’s analytical and critical thinking capabilities in reporting financial information.
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Define and explain the concepts related to the auditing function: Its history; role and function of auditing firms.
- Differentiate between auditing and accounting: Define and explain information risk management; types of auditors; strategic approaches to auditing.
- Describe the principles and roles auditing standards; preparing audit reports; ethical conduct for auditors; responsibility of the auditor and classification of accounting information into cycles.
- Explain the use of audit evidence; types of audit evidence; audit documentation and analytical evaluation.
- Discuss the role and application of internal controls and audit risk; impact of technology; designing and testing for internal controls with appropriate case studies.
- Analyse the risks associated with IT accounting systems; auditing through the computer and issues relating to e- commerce with appropriate case studies.
