An Intiative for upskilling Jamaica & the Caribbean during the current pandemic & beyond
UCC Global Corporate University (UCCG CU), a division of the UCC Group, will be seeking to in partner with a major international organization to target thousands of businesses/employers and their employees/ potential adult learners across Jamaica, most of them without a degree or any college credits. Up to 70% of the Jamaican workforce is without a college degree!
Especially during this period of the pandemic, UCCG CU will join forces in establishing upskilling/reskilling partnerships with Corporate Jamaica by way of its proposed "College for Jamaica/Jamaica Competes” initiative.
Under this novel initiative, all adult employees/learners without the traditional minimum number of five passes in CSEC or any prior college credits will now be able to secure admission in order to pursue a US accredited competency based degree through UCC Global.
What this mean in practice is that, we will build programs and courses aligned with in-demand industry skills, and in keeping with US accreditation standards, and ask our adult students to demonstrate competency in those areas. For the most part, students/employees will learn and demonstrate what they know and can do rather than only spending most of their time in class to accumulate credit hours.
After proving competency, they will then move on to the next course, so if they are accelerating, both they & their employer will save time & money. This will significantly change the role of our international UCC Global faculty members, who will support these students/employees through their personal education journeys. The typical role of one faculty member will be divided into multiple roles to provide this student-centric experience/personalization. Working adult students will move through as many courses as they can prove competency in, and our course instructors and student success coaches & mentors will be there to help them along the way.

HOW IT WORKS
For accredited undergraduate degrees & professional development certificate programs:
The UCC Corporate University: Pays 25% of tuition via a partial scholarship for each employee. The employer/Corporate Entity/Business: Pays 50% of tuition payable either annually for degree programs OR upfront on registration OR as tuition reimbursement at end of program. The employee Pays 25%
