University of the Commonwealth Caribbean Welcomes Prof. John MacIntyre as New Chancellor
Kingston, Jamaica, February 20, 2025 — The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor John MacIntyre as its new Chancellor. With an illustrious career spanning over three decades in higher education, Professor MacIntyre brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that aligns seamlessly with UCC’s vision and mission.
Professor MacIntyre succeeds Former Governor General Professor Sir Kenneth Hall, who previously served as Chancellor of UCC. Sir Kenneth Hall, a distinguished academic and public servant, played an instrumental role in shaping the university’s trajectory, further strengthening its commitment to academic excellence and regional development.
“I am looking forward to working with the vibrant community at UCC to cultivate an environment where innovation thrives, and ethical considerations in technology are prioritized,” said Professor John MacIntyre. Formerly the Pro Vice Chancellor at the University of Sunderland in the United Kingdom, and a respected leader in the field of artificial intelligence, Prof. MacIntyre has made significant contributions to academic and applied research in computer science, engineering, and leadership. He is a visiting Professor at numerous global institutions and has authored over 200 papers on critical topics in technology and management. His commitment to academic excellence and ethical leadership in AI aligns with UCC's commitment to fostering integrity and social responsibility in its community.
UCC’s vision to provide broad-based educational opportunities is reflected in Professor MacIntyre’s history of promoting entrepreneurship and innovative educational practices, particularly in the fields of science and technology. His role as editor-in-chief of Neural Computing & Applications and co-editor-in-chief of AI and Ethics highlights his dedication to advancing knowledge in applied AI while addressing the ethical implications of technological advancements.
