This course will prepare students to analyse a company’s business environment, select a strategy and construct the organisation necessary to put it into action. The course builds on content learnt in other courses in the areas of general management, managerial economics, managing organisational behaviour and marketing strategy.
Students will be exposed to and apply tools developed by world-renowned scholars, to arrive at
insights that are both applicable in the business world and deeply rooted in a thorough academic understanding.
On successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Summarise the principles and concepts of strategic management, including mission statements, vision statements core values, organizational objectives, internal, external and global environments.
- Examine the significance of business analyses in strategic management including SWOT analysis, BCG Matrix, Value Chain analysis, PESTLE, Porter’s Analyses, Benchmarking, Product Life Cycle the Functional approach, and Financial Ratios.
- Examine with use of case studies, the significance of business strategy analyses (domestic, multi- business, multinational) and the various analysis tools utilized, including their application to short, long-term objectives and grand strategies.
- Apply strategic concepts in the analysis of organizational structures (traditional and for the future), organizational culture and leadership for embracing change.
- Identify strategic control principles and evaluate them using appropriate case studies and relevant analytical tools:
- Explain operational control systems and improvement strategies for business control.
This course is open-entry. There are no prerequisites for entry.
