The international community is facing a number of complex challenges including climate change, financial crises, and numerous military and political conflicts. Students will research, discuss, debate and make presentations on these issues, which have been selected to sensitise the students to the socio-political, economic and cultural issues that have ignited and agitated the best minds of our times
This course will provide the foundation from which students can make an educated, well-read, thoughtful, critically reflective, and intellectually engaging contribution to the world.
On completion of the course, students would be able to achieve the following course outcomes:
- Empowered to communicate effectively and accurately in English.
- Able to facilitate the use of English for international and public communication.
- Able to advance their skill sets in listening and speaking.
- Able to critically reflect on world issues related to globalisation, environmental crises, and human rights violation.
- Able to contextualise, analyse, theorise on world issues, and respond to the same with sensitivity and responsibility.
- Empowered to critically place and analyse media texts across a variety of spaces such as newspaper, radio, television, and social media platforms.
This course is open-entry. There are no prerequisites for entry.
