The Public Speaking course is a performance-based course, designed to integrate theory and practice in preparing professionals for public speaking assignments.  The instructor will use a variety of methods such as skill building exercises, small group activities, oral presentations, and assessments of outside speakers, to help students achieve the Course Learning outcomes. All course assignments and requirements must be completed to earning a passing grade.

On successful completion of this course students should be able to:

• Explain the communication process.
• Conduct both informal and formal audience analysis
• Design a speech to reflect the analysis and enhance listening of a specific type of audience.
• Integrate visual aids into a presentation
• Assess personal “speech anxiety” and use appropriate reduction techniques
