Programme Overview

The MBA – Finance combines advanced business and management study with specialist learning in financial markets, investment decision-making, international finance and corporate financial strategy.

Programme Structure

The programme consists of 14 three-credit courses, totalling 42 credits. It combines 10 MBA core courses with four Finance specialist courses.

Admission Requirements

Standard Entry

  • An earned bachelor's degree from a recognised or accredited institution.
  • An undergraduate GPA of 2.0 or above meets the stated GPA requirement.
  • Where an applicant's GPA is below 2.0, completion of the Commonwealth Executive Management Achievement Test (CEMAT) or GMAT is required.
  • A working knowledge of the English Language at the postgraduate studies level.
  • Certain prerequisite courses may be required based on the applicant's academic background.

Prerequisite Knowledge

A foundation in Mathematics, Statistics, Accounting, Marketing and Finance is required for MBA matriculation.

Applicants who do not have sufficient college-level background or competencies in these areas are required to complete the relevant non-credit UCC prerequisite courses. These prerequisites are a non-negotiable eligibility requirement for registration in certain MBA courses.

Required prerequisites are identified on the acceptance letter and must be successfully completed before the start of the relevant course. The prerequisite courses are completed online as free Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) using links provided by the College of Graduate Studies and Research.

Alternative Entry through Prior Learning Assessment

Applicants who do not hold a bachelor's degree may be eligible for MBA matriculation through Prior Learning Assessment if they:

  • Have completed an Associate degree;
  • Have at least three years' work experience in a supervisory position, such as a supervisor, manager or business owner;
  • Are at least 30 years old;
  • Provide evidence of successful completion of the CEMAT requirement; and
  • Meet the Prior Learning Assessment Portfolio requirements for graduate programmes.
