Financial Management is a specific area which deals with the financial decisions that corporations make, and the tools and analyses used in making those decisions.
The discipline may be divided among long and short-term decisions and techniques used in arriving at these decisions.
The primary goal is preparing future financial managers to utilise the tools of analysis, in identifying and solving management problems. This is a highly quantitative course.
On successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- State the terminology, theory and analytical techniques that form the bases for financial management;
- Describe how financial decisions impact business performance;
- Analyse financial statements to evaluate profitability of the firm;
- Compute financial ratios and perform analyses of the firm’s performance through benchmarking;
- State and describe how financial markets operate and the different types of financial instruments;
- Compute present and future value of single cash flows, annuities and unequal cash flows;
- Calculate the value of bonds and equity securities using present value techniques;
- Compute the expected returns and risks for securities;
- Evaluate through appropriate quantitative tools, the profitability of various investment projects using Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return, Modified Internal Rate of Return, Profitability Index and Payback Techniques.
This course is open-entry. There are no prerequisites for entry.
