MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

...

Dear Student,

I am delighted to welcome you to the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) for the Academic Year 2024/2025.

If you are new, a special welcome; you have made an excellent choice. If you are returning, I extend a special welcome to you as you continue your journey with us. This journey promises to be an exciting time in your life, as you will navigate new experiences, gain wisdom from various challenges and seize opportunities to learn and thrive.

As stated in our motto, “fostering leadership and innovation” is what we are about. Our Mission expands on this, indicating that as an institution, we are dedicated not only to empowering students to become scholars, but also to become innovators and visionary leaders in business and academia. Our commitment to fostering a supportive and stimulating environment is reflected in a wholistic approach that combines academic excellence and social responsibility. This means that as you commence or continue your journey, you should remember that your time here is more than academics. I therefore encourage you to balance the quest for academic success with well-rounded personal development; immerse yourself in campus life and make meaningful connections that will last beyond the boundaries of the campus.

Should you encounter any challenges on your journey, our dedicated team of academic and administrative personnel is here to assist you.

In closing, I am confident that with determination, hard work, and the effective application of the resources available to you, that you will achieve personal growth and development during this academic year. On behalf of the entire UCC, I extend best wishes for an enriching and fulfilling journey ahead.  As it is said, “The highest reward for a person’s hard work is not what they get for it, but what they become by it.” As you pursue your passion and invest in yourself, I trust that you will become an agent for change, making a positive contribution to Jamaica, the Caribbean and beyond.

Warmest regards,

Professor Colin Gyles, CD, PhD
