University of the Commonwealth Caribbean Announces Youth Day Event to Empower Tomorrow’s Leaders

Kingston, Jamaica – November 19, 2024 – The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) is proud to host its annual Youth Day event on Thursday, November 28, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at its main campus located at 17 Worthington Avenue, Kingston 5. This year's theme, ‘Industrial Efficiency Meets Talent and Entrepreneurship’, promises an enriching platform for young minds to explore innovative pathways in entrepreneurship and leadership within the digital age.
The day will feature a Youth Talent Showcase and Expo, highlighting the creative and entrepreneurial projects of UCC students, and a series of engaging panel discussions. Dr. Leleith Donald-Tomlinson, Dean of the College of Applied and Occupational Studies, emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “Whitney Houston sang, 'I believe the children are our future.' This day is about making that belief a reality by providing our youth with the tools they need to succeed. Our students possess brilliant ideas that they are eager to monetize, and with the support of experts from the Bureau of Standards and our Business Development unit, we will elevate these ideas to new heights”.
The event will include participation from distinguished guests such as Maxine A. Fagan, Manager of Communication and Customer Service at the Bureau of Standards, Jamaica, who will address the nexus of industrial efficiency and entrepreneurial talent. Additionally, popular social media influencer, Russhaine Berry, also known as Dutty Berry, will join a panel on ‘Youth Leadership in the Digital Age’. The discussion will cover critical topics such as the role of social media in governance, the potential of blockchain technology, strategies for young entrepreneurs on digital platforms, and ethical considerations in digital privacy and data security.
Additional activities include the Latin America and Caribbean Internet (LAC-i) Roadshow by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) in partnership with the Internet Society Jamaica Chapter, a campus-wide tour, and more presentations focusing on digital leadership and innovation.UCC invites students, educators, industry leaders, and the media to join in this transformative event, designed to showcase and cultivate the talents of Jamaica’s youth, preparing them to lead with innovation and integrity in a rapidly evolving world.
