Electronics Engineering

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

Electronics engineers design and develop electronic equipment, such as broadcast and communications systems, portable music players, microwaves, GPS devices, televisions and a myriad of other electronic devices used industry and homes.

Electronics engineers typically do the following:

  • Design electronic components, software, products, or systems.
  • They analyze the needs of customers in order to determine what are the needed capacity and cost of developing the intended electronic system.
  • Evaluation and recommendation for modifications or equipment repair
  • Inspection of  electronic equipment and systems to make to determine if they meet regulatory standards
  • Development of applications and modifications for electronic properties that are used in electronics parts in order to improve performance of instruments

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES:

Students in this first-degree programme will learn :

  • Mathematical analysis of circuits
  • Construct high speed digital circuits
  • Construct and analyze electronic filters and their frequency using capacitors and inductors
  • Use MOS transistors and operational amplifiers for specific electronic applications
  • Measurement of circuit variables using oscilloscopes, multimeters,  frequency analyzers and signal generators
  • Comparison of circuit variables with predicted mathematical model behavior and offer explanations for discrepancies
  • Fundamentals of number systems and performing conversion between them.
  • Logic circuits and how to design them.
  • Classification of Combinational and Sequential Logic.
  • Flip flops and latches

NOTEBlended programmes like this will be delivered via both face-to-face and online synchronous sessions (read more on what is blended learning by clicking here).

Many programmes will offer students the choice to select a course delivered either face-to-face or via synchronous online modality. Upon registration, please read registration instructions carefully so that you select the modality that you prefer based on the options that are available.
