UCC to confer Honorary Doctorate Degree on Dorothy Pine-McLarty

Kingston, June 20, 2019 – The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) will confer an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration on the Honourable Mrs Dorothy Pine-McLarty, Attorney at Law and Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Jamaica at its Commencement Ceremony next month at the National Arena in Kingston.

UCC to host Distinguished Lecture to discuss Jamaica’s experience under the IMF Stand-By Arrangement

Kingston, June 7, 2019 – The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) is to host another Distinguished Lecture, in the style of a town hall meeting, in the main Lecture Theatre at the University’s Main Campus in Kingston on Tuesday, June 11. Students, representatives from the financial sector and other stakeholders are invited to participate in the discussions on Jamaica’s experience under the current Stand-By Arrangement (SBA) with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The Stand-By Arrangement is an economic programme of the IMF which gives financial aid to a member state in need of such assistance, normally arising from a fiscal crisis.

University of the Commonwealth Caribbean President and Executive Chancellor, Professor Dennis J. Gayle said that "the Distinguished Lecture will provide students and all other participants an opportunity to engage with IMF officials, evaluate Jamaica’s experience under the current Stand-By Arrangement, and discuss the way forward after the agreement ends.”

Jamaica’s 36-month Stand-By Arrangement with the IMF will end this year.

UCC signs MoU with Small Business Association of Jamaica

Kingston, April 19, 2019 – The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) and the Small Business Association of Jamaica (SBAJ) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the mutual objectives of contributing to national development through the provision of business training for companies and internship for students.

The MoU was signed by Chairman of the University and Foundation Boards and Executive Chancellor of UCC, Professor Dennis J. Gayle and President of the Small Business Association of Jamaica, Hugh Johnson,  at the 2019 Caribbean Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises Conference at the Jamaica Pegasus on Wednesday (April 17).

The agreement signals continued efforts by UCC to forge partnerships with various organisations in an effort to promote advanced learning, training and development and to provide an environment for students to gain much needed experience.

The Small Business Association of Jamaica is a private non-profit business organisation which fosters and encourages the growth and development of businesses and professional groups in Jamaica. They also serve as a corporate voice through which small businesses can make their views known to the Government and the public in general, in a variety of areas by pooling efforts and resources for the benefit of all.

U.S. Congresswoman  Yvette D. Clarke Has High Hopes For UCC Graduates

Yvette Clarke, the first African American and Caribbean American woman to be elected to the US Congress, has charged the 2018 graduating class of the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) to play their roles in transforming the world.

Clarke was speaking at the National Arena during her keynote address at the graduation ceremony yesterday.

UCC to offer CXC associate degrees in historic franchise agreement
