This course will serve as an introduction to the principles and practices of public relations and the application of public relations in business, government, associations and nonprofit organizations.
Participants will also understand the public relations process and appreciate the significance of ethics, protocol and etiquette in the practice of public relations.
On successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Distinguish between public relations and marketing functions and activities
- Discuss the evolution of public relations
- Analyze the ethical and professional foundations of public relations practice
- Assess the impact of law and regulations on the practice of public relations
- Critique the theoretical models for public relations
- Distinguish among the media used to communicate with the internal and external publics
- Evaluate the relationship between public relations and the media
- Prepare a public relations programme plan
- Prepare a communications strategy for an organization or company
- Evaluate a public relations programme
- Describe and apply the principles of protocol and etiquette
- Explain how to behave correctly in both business and social situations
- Describe how to interact and communicate effectively with different types of guests
- Display appropriate personal and professional conduct
- Plan VIP visits and formal occasions while executing the role of the ideal host
- Apply proper communication etiquette
